Action Earth

Community groups registering an environmental project can receive a £50 grant to help buy materials and tools. Projects must improve the local environment, involve volunteers or meet a community need. There is also an opportunity to win £500 cash.

Awards for All

Grants up to £10,000 from the Awards for All programme are open to not-for-profit organisations, including parish and town councils, schools and health bodies.

They can be used to support small-scale projects that promote arts and education, encourage healthier living, develop local sports, support heritage initiatives and boost community

Biffaward

Biffaward is a landfill tax credit funded scheme and so projects must be within 10 miles of a Biffa operation (a postcode search is available on the website). Varying levels of funding are available for flagship projects (up to £500,000), small grants projects (up to £5,000) and biodiveristy projects (discretionary). The aim of the scheme is to: Provide and improve public amenities; Create, Restore and Manage areas specifically to increase biodiversity; Enable smaller groups to access funding more easily; and Support community led regeneration schemes of regional or national significance.

The Big Lottery Fund

Big Lottery Fund is responsible for giving out half the money for good causes raised by the National Lottery, giving a budget of about £630 million a year. Funding covers health, education, environment and charitable purposes. They are committed to bringing real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.

Charles Hayward Foundation

This trust focuses on the South East and one priority is Art, Preservation and the Environment. This includes the purchase of land or reclamation of recently purchased land to be used for nature reserves or inner-city gardens, parks and artefacts. industrial heritage and the conservation of gardens.

Community Paths Project

Small grants are available for Public Rights of Way improvement. This could be anything that affects the surface or features of a footpath, bridleway or byway. Applicants are encouraged to involve volunteers as money can only be given to projects which can be carried out by volunteers.

Dartford Borough Council Environmental Award

Grants of up to £250 for projects that improve the local environment – the project could be anything from improving a green area, promoting healthy eating, school recycling schemes through to using alternative technologies such as solar and wind power. Groups, schools and organisations can make one application per year and the grant can only be used for the purposes set out in the application form.

It's your Community

The Conservation Foundation and O2 have teamed up for this new grant scheme. Awards of up to £1000 are available to local groups and individuals for the hire of tools or equipment, and to purchase plants, paint, signs, materials etc. 

The awards are open to community and voluntary organisations such as heritage groups, youth clubs, parish and village councils, environmental and conservation groups.

All types of environmental projects are welcome to apply, from anywhere in the country.

Application forms are available from O2 shops and from the Conservation Foundation. Successful applicants may also be eligible for a further ‘Well Done Award’ if you send in ‘before and after’ photos to show what their project has achieved.

The Wates Foundation

Arts, Heritage and the Environment - To contribute to mainstream culture through the Arts, the conservation and promotion of the national heritage, and the rural and urban environment. Grants of up to £25,000 a year for a maximum of three years.
