Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support

Housing Benefit is a national benefit to help you pay your rent if you are on a low income. It is funded by Central Government but administered locally by us.

The amount you can receive depends on your income and circumstances.

To find out if you qualify for this benefit and others that are administered by other public authorities please visit the interactive Benefits adviser.

Council Tax Support is a local scheme, based on similar criteria to Housing Benefit, to help people on a low income, in or out of work, or in receipt of state benefits. It replaced Council Tax Benefit in April 2013. The amount you can receive depends on your income and circumstances.

Council Tax Support will not pay 100% of your Council Tax if you are working age.
