Dartford has a fantastic tradition of hosting markets and as well as holding traditional weekly markets on Thursdays and Saturdays a number of speciality markets including French, Italian and Farmers Markets are taking place throughout the year.

Our regular markets...

The Thursday Market Market Stall

is currently held in the car park of the Priory Shopping Centre (next to Sainsburys) from 8.30am to around 5pm. It has approximately 220 stalls and much of it is under a covered canopy.

There is a wide range of goods on sale including fresh fish and shellfish as well as several food and drink concessions for those who want some refreshment whilst shopping.

The Thursday Market is on the move!

Dartford’s Thursday Market has a new home – in Dartford High Street – from Thursday 4 September 2014!

The move comes as the lease on the market’s current venue – in the Sainsbury’s car park – expires.

Market traders, retailers and businesses in the town centre have been consulted in the run-up to the move to address any concerns and ensure there is enough space for everyone.

As part of the move, a new food court area will be created in Market Place and the Old Market Street Car Park (behind Iceland). This will mean that the car park will be closed on Thursdays. Alternative parking will be available in nearby car parks.

The market will still offer the same great range of food, drink, clothing, accessories, toys and homewares.

The Saturday Market

is held in Dartford High Street from 9am to 5pm and is extremely popular with shoppers and traders.

It is smaller than the Thursday Market with about 100 stalls, but also sells a large selection of goods.

Typical items available at Dartford Markets:

  • Food - fruit & greengrocery, frozen foods, fresh meat, fresh fish and shellfish, groceries, sweets
  • Fashion - mens, ladies & childrens' clothes, sportswear, shoes, trainers, accessories
  • Jewellery - gold, silver, costume jewellery, watches
  • Home & garden - garden plants, cut flowers, garden furniture, kitchenware, linen, curtains, electrical goods, computer hardware/software, carpets, cd's & tapes
  • Refreshments - hot & cold drinks, sandwiches, rolls, cakes, burgers & oriental cuisine

The Market management team are members of the Dartford Town Against Crime (D-TAC) scheme, which is committed to making the retail environment a better and safer place to trade and shop. Further details about the scheme can be found on the Community Safety webpages.
