Councillor Ian Armitt elected as Mayor of Dartford

Image of Councillor Ian ArmittCouncillor Ian Armitt has been elected as Mayor of Dartford for the year 2015/16.

Councillor Armitt became the 37th Mayor of the Borough at the Annual Meeting of the Council on Wednesday 27 May 2015.

He was first elected to the Borough Council in 2003 and has a longstanding interest in local politics and the community. He has lived in Wilmington for thirty-one years.

Councillor Armitt was Mayor of Dartford in 2005/6 and 2008/9 and is only the second Dartford Borough Councillor to have been accorded the honour of holding the position three times.

He will be supported by his wife Lynne as Mayoress and she too is looking forward to what promises to be a rewarding and interesting year.

Together, the Mayor and Mayoress intend to focus on the development of Dartford Town Centre, promote the arts and seek to interest local schools in aspects of local government and civic pride.

The Mayor is also a Darenth Parish Councillor. Having been first elected in 2003, he is the current Vice-Chairman of the Council and Webmaster for the Parish website.

Councillor Armitt is a Governor of Darenth Community Primary School as well as being Vice-Chairman of Dartford Borough Council's Development Control Board, Chairman of the Cabinet Advisory Panel B and a Member of the Licensing Committee.

The Mayor and Mayoress have two daughters, Nicola and Kirsty. Nicola is an author now living with her husband Corey in Australia whilst Kirsty is about to complete her training as a primary school teacher and begins her teaching career at Oakfield Community Primary School in September. Kirsty lives with her partner Will in Sidcup.

The Mayor and the Mayoress enjoy the theatre and are enthusiastic supporters of The Orchard Theatre. They are greatly looking forward to attending performances at the Outdoor Theatre in Central Park. The Mayor and Mayoress are members of a number of local groups and enjoy participating in the many organised activities and outings.

The Deputy Mayor will be Councillor John Burrell and he will be supported by his wife Eija as Deputy Mayoress.
