Dartford Town
Against Crime
Dartford Town Against Crime (D-TAC) comprises stakeholders committed to making the retail environment a better and safer place to trade and shop. The main driver is to co-ordinate existing technology and information to reduce crime and disorder. The scheme is run by a board of Town Centre stakeholders.
The Town Centre Intelligence Manager, with his office at the Orchard Shopping Centre, co-ordinates these efforts and regularly distributes information, among members of the scheme, concerning crime and suspects in and around the town. He also maintains the Intelligence database.
The heart of the scheme is the Town Centre radio system, which is now extending to other parts of the Borough including Swanscombe and Greenhithe. Members of the scheme pay a fixed monthly fee to rent a personal radio. These radios link all members of the scheme together so they can exchange information with ease.
Radios are carried by the local Kent Police Beat Officer, PCSOs and Dartford Council CCTV control room. Should an incident occur, traders within the scheme can readily inform other members quickly and summon assistance.

Shopsafe
The Shopsafe ID Scheme was introduced to enable elderly, vulnerable and people with learning disabilities to visit Dartford's town centre shops and restaurants with confidence safe in the knowledge that, should they encounter difficulties, the personal ID tag carried with them will ensure help will soon be on its way.
The Scheme works by issuing registered applicants with a tag bearing their personal ID number only. This corresponds to confidential details - about their identity and any existing condition/s such as asthma or diabetes - kept on a secure database together with details of their carer or close relative who can be contacted in case of emergency.
Shops signed up to the Scheme can be clearly identified by Scheme members should they require assistance and these shops can draw on extra support if necessary from Orchard Centre Security Staff and the Community Safety Unit based at Dartford Borough Council's Civic Centre.
