Park, Dartford Record crowds throng Dartford Festival 2010...
60,000 people visited Central Park over the weekend for the town's hugely popular annual Festival. Highlights from this year's event included star turns from top comedian and television personality, Bobby Davro who will also be appearing at the borough's Christmas panto at the Orchard Theatre in Jack and the Beanstalk this December, 70's pop group, The Real Thing recalled their heyday of top ten hits alongside the latest X Factor finalists and winners from Twist and Pulse to Jamie Archer and Tobias Mead. Stacey Solomon the sensational songstress and Dagenham Diva charmed the audience with her soulful rendition of some classic standards. Big crowd pleasers were the tribute acts with a thrilling set from 'Rod Stewart', 'Queen' and 'Take That'.
The Leader of the Council, Cllr Jeremy Kite commented:
"Central Park is the home of the Festival and it has never looked better. Regular festival-goers were in for some surprises this year with the arrival of a brand new Bandstand which will see a summer of free Sunday concerts. There's a grand new park entrance too at Darenth Road affording easier access to people living and visiting from the eastern side of the park and the installation of our handsome new iron bridges across the River Darent. These improvements are all part of our Edwardian refurbishment to a much loved park and add to the waterplay children's area which was opened last year".
