Food Safety and Infectious Diseases

The Environmental Health team manage issues relating to food hygiene and safety and outbreaks of infectious disease within the Borough. They investigate incidents of food poisoning or diseases and inspect food manufacturers and retail outlets.

The National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme

In 2010, the Food Standards Agency, in partnership with Local Authorities rolled out a National Food Hygiene Rating scheme for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The scheme will provide consumers with at-a-glance information about hygiene standards in food businesses, to help them make informed choices about where they buy and eat food.

The scheme will serve as a good advertisement for businesses that practice high standards of food hygiene. Restaurants, takewaways, cafes, sandwich shops, pubs, hotels, supermarkets and other retail food outlets, as well as any other business where consumers can eat or buy food, will be given a rating.

From the 1st April 2011 this scheme has been available for food businesses in the Dartford area.   This includes the Bluewater Shopping Centre.  We are continually updating this site as inspections are undertaken.

The Food Standards Agency has a range of tools that can help businesses maintain and improve food hygiene standards.
