Make Dartford blooming marvellous with our free flowers
The Free Bulb Scheme is back again, so here’s your chance to make your local area beautiful as part of Dartford Borough Pride.
Dartford Borough Council’s Free Bulb Scheme offers local organisations the chance to add some spring colour to the borough by taking advantage of our free bulb promotion - helping to put Dartford in full bloom in 2009.
The scheme not only brightens up the community but also benefits local wildlife by providing early nectar sources for pollinators after winter. So don’t delay - spring into action now.
What’s on offer?
The scheme offers up to five nets each containing 150 bulbs of Golden Cheer Daffodils and 100 Clustered Bellflower plugs.Giving you thousands of plants to brighten up your area!!
You will also receive a plaque highlighting your organisation’s involvement in the Free Bulb Scheme.
Interested? Here’s what to do.
If you’re an organisation within Dartford with a communal area or an area with easy accessibility to the public you can apply using the attached application form.
We can’t supply bulbs to:
- Private gardens
- Businesses (unless of significant public benefit)
- Privately owned land unless written permission is given and there is public benefit.
Choosing your planting area
To help you pick the right place to put your bulbs and decide how many nets to apply for we provided you with helpful hints below:
- To create the most impact with your bulbs, they should be planted in big groups of no fewer than 20 bulbs per clump.
- One net of 150 bulbs will cover an area 3-4msq with the bulbs packed tightly together
- Avoid planting the bulbs individually or in long straight lines. When planted in open space they will need to look as natural as possible.
Remember each net contains 150 bulbs which is roughly three times the size of a net of bulbs bought in a garden centre.
How to apply
- Download and complete the application form
- Provide a sketch map detailing where the bulbs will be planted. Please give details of the size of the area you wish to plant and locations of buildings, road and trees.
- Please provide a grid reference and additional maps if the planting location is not within the grounds of the address given.
