Gunn Road signs up to new agreement with fun day
Swanscombe residents living in and around Gunn Road have celebrated the introduction of an important new neighbourhood agreement between themselves and the council – with a family fun day.
The event, dubbed the ‘party in the car park’ brought together residents from the local area for a day of fun activities including a High School Musical performance and cheerleading training.
Residents also had the opportunity to meet with staff from the council, police, fire service and local youth and education teams to learn more about the services on offer.
The day also included the launch of the Gunn Road Area Agreement, which sets out the expectations of residents, the council and other local organisations in improving the quality of life for the local neighbourhood. The agreement has been delivered to residents living in Gunn Road, Bodle Avenue, Bushfield Walk, Mitchell Walk, Butcher Walk and Rectory Road.
The aim of the neighbourhood agreement is to develop a partnership between local residents and the council that will improve the quality of life in the area and set agreed acceptable standards for all in relation to conduct, responsibilities and other issues relating to life on the estate.
Jeremy Kite, Leader of Dartford Borough Council, says the event was an important step in raising the local quality of life.
“I was very pleased to attend the fun day, taking part in the activities and meeting with the local residents of Gunn Road. It was most satisfying to see people of all ages joining together to have a great day.
It’s always a shame when a neighbourhood has a reputation it doesn’t deserve and I was very impressed with the way local residents look after their community. The streets were clean, gardens are tidy and all of the open signs are of a group of people who value where they live and the people they live alongside. I hope and trust that we can use this very fun family day as a springboard to the future.”
