Mayor of Dartford 2006-2007

Councillor David Hammock, Ward Member for Bean and Darenth, will be the Borough's 30th Mayor of Dartford after being nominated at the latest Annual Meeting of the Council.

Councillor Hammock is looking forward to the honour of representing and promoting the Borough in what he believes will be an exciting year for the residents of Dartford and the surrounding area.

His Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Hammock, 63, has lived in Bean for 30 years and now lives in Greenhithe. He was the landlord of the Blackhorse Public House, High Street, Bean for 20 years.

Councillor Hammock is Chair of the Audit Standard Board and Member of the Standards Board with a special interest in external investment and probity of the Council.

Councillor Hammock will be escorted by his niece Ms Steve Doran. Steve, 20. She was a student at Dartford Grammar school and is now reading politics at Nottingham University . She is the President of Nottingham University Debating Society and recently came second in the World Public Speaking Championships.

The Mayor has two sons; Caven, 38, who works in Ghana as a Managing Director and Matthew, 31, who is a Tug-boat captain.

Money raised through the Mayors Charity Appeal will be donated to two causes, The New Yorker's Club and The Lollipop Appeal. The Dartford based, New Yorker's Club is run entirely by volunteers and has provided a range of leisure facilities, activities and outings for more than 40 young adults with learning difficulties.

They provide a relaxed and secure environment in which members can enjoy each other's company and at the same time give some respite to their families and carers. The Lollipop Appeal aims to create a High Dependency Area for seriously ill children in the Willow Ward at Darent Valley Hospital .
