Honorary Alderman Terry Smith

The Council very much regrets to announce the death of Honorary Alderman Terry Smith on 8 March 2017.

Terry Smith was a long standing Councillor for Heath Ward in Dartford, elected in 1965 and serving until 2011. He was  Mayor of the Borough of Dartford in 1969-70 and Deputy Mayor of Dartford Borough Council in  2003-04   . His late son, Bernard Smith was also a Councillor for several years and a former Mayor.

Leader of the Council, Jeremy Kite MBE, said that 'the loss of any past member of the Council is a cause for sadness, but Terry Smith can truly be said to have changed the face of Dartford with his important role in developments and partnerships enduring to the present day. His legacy and dedication will never be forgotten and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him. My thoughts are with Terry's family at this sad time'.

Terry Smith's long service to the Council and the people of Dartford was recognised by his conferment as an Honorary Alderman in 2012.

A Requiem Mass will be held at St Anselm's Catholic Church, West Hill, Dartford at 10.00am on Thursday 6 April 2017.
