Drivers urged to stop dropping litter

Drivers in Dartford are being urged to treat the area with more respect after 160+ bags of rubbish were collected from one of the busiest routes into the town centre.

The busy Green St Green Road is used by more than 13,000 vehicles on a week day and Deep Clean litter pickers collected the rubbish as part of a 5 day blitz.  Amongst empty crisp packets and drink cans, workers also found several car bumpers, a lorry bumper, a dozen wheel trims and even a computer hard drive.

Cllr Pat Coleman, portfolio holder for the Deep Clean says drivers and passers by need to consider there actions before discarding rubbish.

“Green Street Green Road is one of the main routes into our town centre and it’s important that we ensure it looks clean and tidy.  The Deep Clean team have done a fantastic job of clearing the area and cutting back overgrowth but it’s now up to those who use the road to ensure we don’t allow the problem to come back by disposing of rubbish properly.”

The Deep Clean took place in early February and alongside litter pickers, workers cut back overgrowth, removed graffiti and swept pavements along the length of the road.

The Deep Clean programme is in its fourth year and aims to tackle environmental eyesores including graffiti, overgrown vegetation and fly tipping.  The next Deep Clean will focus on Wilmington ward and will take place between Monday 25 to Friday 29 February.
