Dance champ backs local Sports Awards
A Dartford hip hop champion is supporting the borough’s Sports Awards after winning the under 13 category last year.
Molly Boulding has just come back from winning the All England U16 Championships on 10 February. The dance star also won the U16 Dutch open championships on 27 and 28 January and says the Sports Awards is an important event to put Dartford on the map.
“People in the dancing community understand and appreciate the effort put into it and the talent needed to win competitions but those outside don’t really so it’s really nice to get recognised outside of the sport.
I’d definitely recommend people nominate for the awards because it’s not only good for the person but it’s also good to get Dartford recognised and show the talent that’s coming out of the town”
Nominations are now open for this year’s Sports Awards which take place on Wednesday 26 March at Princes Park. Categories include male and female for the under 13, 16 and 21 age groups plus sports club of the year, sports coach of the year and the Leader’s Award.
Cllr Patsy Thurlow, portfolio holder for sport, says Molly leads a good example,
“The sports awards are there for people like Molly Boulding for us to show our support and recognition for their talent and dedication. She is clearly an extremely talented young girl and it’s pleasing to know that she is proud of her Sports Award and I hope we get many nominations this year from talented young stars like her.”
Molly’s next target is to win the World Championships under 16 category before she is 15 and hopes to become a professional dancer for films and music videos. The 13 year old was pleased when she won the award last year after being nominated by her mum.
“We had to come here for the ceremony and I thought I was there as a nominee rather than a winner – when my name was called it was quite a shock! I took it to show my dance teacher and other dancers – it made me feel really proud and a lot of my dance trophies look very similar so I was really pleased to have a trophy that stood out.”
