Council helps Bowls Club with £25,000 membership drive funding

Stone Lodge Bowls Club is to receive a £25,000 cash injection to help boost membership and participation in indoor bowls.

The three year grant, announced by Dartford Borough Council today, will help the club sustain its long term future by encouraging new members to join and compete in the Kent Bowls League.

Councillor Patsy Thurlow, portfolio holder for sport, says:

“This significant grant meets our twin aims of supporting successful local sports groups whilst also encouraging more people to participate. Stone Lodge bowls club has a good regional reputation but needs to attract new players to play regularly and competitively. Bowls is a very enjoyable and sociable sport which is played by people of all ages and our grant will help the club find and encourage a new generation of players.”

The indoor bowls club is located at Stone Lodge, close to the Dartford Judo Centre and the new outdoor facility for Halls Bowls Club due to open later in 2008.

Notes:

The grant funding offers £25,000 over three years broken down into the following packages:

  • 2008/09 £11,000
  • 2009/10 £9,000
  • 2010/11 £5,000
