World strongman to present Sports Awards
Dartford’s top sports stars can learn tips from the best as Britain Strongest Man, Terry Hollands, presents trophies to successful nominees at this year’s sports awards.
Residents can nominate talented sports stars for the awards until Monday 10 March.
The Sports Awards 2008, organised by Dartford Borough Council, take place on Wednesday 26 March at Princes Park Community Stadium and offer young sports stars the opportunity to celebrate their success at a formal event.
Each winner will be presented with their trophy by Dartford born Strongman Terry Hollands. As well as holding the current title of Britain’s strongest man, Terry came 3rd in the Worlds Strongest Man competition last year and was the first British competitor to make the top three in 14 years.
Cllr Patsy Thurlow, portfolio holder for Sport says the Terry Hollands is a great addition to this year’s ceremony.
“Terry Hollands is an extremely gifted and dedicated athlete and is a prime example of how far talented sports stars can go by working hard. The Sports Awards are there to celebrate the top sporting talent coming out of Dartford and Terry is a perfect representation of this. It will be wonderful to see him present the awards to the well deserved winners.”
Categories for the award include male and female for the under 13, 16 and 21 age groups plus sports club of the year, sports coach of the year and the Leader’s Award. Past awards have seen winners from a range of sports including hip hop dancing, fencing, windsurfing, football and cricket.
Nominations for the Sports Awards 2008 close at noon on Monday 10 March. For more information and to nominate, visit www.dartford.gov.uk/sportsawards
