Organisations can bloom with free flowers
Community organisations in Dartford can get some flower power for 2009 by applying for the council’s free bulb scheme this autumn.
The scheme, in its third year, provides up to 5 nets of 150 Golden Cheer Daffodils as well as 100 Clustered Bellflower plant plugs for any community organisation in the borough with a communal area or an area with easy accessibility in to the public.
Cllr Marilyn Peters, Free Bulb scheme Champion, says the scheme helps to brighten Dartford up in spring time.
“We have already given away more than 100,000 bulbs in previous years and I hope many more local groups and organisations will apply this year. Flowers are a simple but very effective way of brightening up an area and with the help of organisations we can make Dartford look blooming marvellous next Spring!”
The scheme is part of the Borough Pride initiative to tackle environmental issues and brighten up the borough and is delivered for the council by the North West Kent Countryside Partnership.
Local groups and organisations can apply and the flowers must be planted in a communal area or an area with easy public access. The deadline for applications is 30 October 2008.
