Grant a stroke of luck for swim club
Dartford swimming club is celebrating after being awarded a £800 grant to help the club work towards it ‘swim 21’ recognised accreditation.
The club, based at Fairfield Pool, provides lessons for swimmers of all ages and abilities and will use the grant to send coaches and volunteers on a child protection course – a necessity to gain Swim 21 accreditation as well as producing a newsletter for members.
Cllr Patsy Thurlow, portfolio holder for the sports, arts and heritage grants, says the grants scheme is important to help Dartford’s groups develop.
“The grant will help the swimming club achieve a key accreditation, I’m really please we were able to help and I would urge organisations to apply for funds so we can help them to continue providing a key service to our community.”
Della Jeffery, who applied for the grant for the group, says the funding will make a lot of difference to the club.
“The members have to pay subs to the club for their swimming but this only covers the cost of the pool hire and some coaching fees. We don’t have anything left to put back into the club for training our volunteers or providing a newsletter and the grant will help us do this.”
Groups and organisations can apply for up to £1500 through the grants, awarded twice a year, for sports, arts and heritage-related activities including skills training, purchase of equipment, start-up funding initiatives, professional advice and audience development.
Applications for the current round of grants must be received by 30 September. To apply or for more information, visit www.dartford.gov.uk/grants or call 01322 343224.
