Turn your garden into a wildlife haven

The Kent Wildlife Gardening Awards officially launches today. Local residents are being encouraged to transform their gardens into wildlife havens as part of this year’s Kent Wildlife Gardening Awards Scheme.

The annual initiative, run by Dartford Borough Council, the Kent Wildlife Trust and the Royal Horticultural Society, aims to make gardens more wildlife friendly. Simply by planting extra flowering plants for butterflies and bees, using a water butt or compost heap or putting up nest boxes and bird feeders, gardens can be transformed into wonderful habitats for wildlife.

Entry into the competition is free and is open to residents, businesses, community groups, schools, allotments and even a collection of adjoining gardens.

Those who enter could qualify for either a gold, silver or bronze award following an inspection by expert assessors from the Kent Wildlife Trust. Dartford Borough Council will be holding its own award ceremony later in the year.

For further details about the scheme or an entry form for the scheme contact:
Sandra Woodfall on 01322 343056 or send an email to environmental.promotions@dartford.gov.uk, or complete the entry form online.

All entries must be received by 30 June 2010 to be eligible for the 2010 award scheme.
