Changes to Land Registry Services for Dartford
The Tunbridge Wells Office of the Land Registry, which currently serves the Dartford area, will be closing in June 2011. Operations will be scaled down from 1 October this year, with some functions being passed over to their merged and expanded Nottingham office.
The Forest Court site in Hawkenberry, on the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells, is one of two Land Registry offices due to close completely in 2011, as part of a nationwide downsizing plan.
The closure will have no impact on the Land Registry’s Business e-services. Formerly “Land Registry Direct”, these services came under a new Land Registry Portal in June this year.

What is the Land Registry?
Land Registry maintains and develops the register of title to freehold and leasehold land in England and Wales. Since 2008 the workings of the Land Registry have been governed by the Land Registration Act 2002, far-reaching legislation that replaced the 1925 Act and ushered in electronic conveyancing.
Registration of land is voluntary and carries many benefits in relation to buying, selling and guarding against “adverse possession” (squatting). Today 30 per cent of land in England and Wales remains unregistered.
