Charities supported by the Mayor of Dartford

The Mayor has chosen to support 4 charities this year.

Home-Start is a charity that offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children, in local communities throughout the UK and supports more than thirty thousand families each year Home-Start offers a unique service, recruiting and training volunteers who are parents themselves – to visit families with at least one child under five at home to offer informal, friendly and confidential support.

To help give children the best possible start in life, we support parents as they grow in confidence, strengthen and enjoy relationships with their children plus widen links with the local community.

Cherished Memories

Cherished Memories was born in 1993 by a remarkable woman named Suzette Abbott. It was following the diagnosis of her father’s cancer that Suzette organised ‘once in a lifetime’ trips on Concorde and to Brands Hatch, (motor sport being a favourite of her father). Suzette’s father sadly died of cancer but the family was left with those cherished memories to remember the special times rather than the suffering.

Mary's Child

Over two thousand years ago a baby was born to a young mother and her fiancĂ©, far away from their home in a strange place surrounded by animals.

They had none of the comforts of a home and they relied on the generosity of others. They received gifts brought by strangers in a borrowed manger in a borrowed stable. Soon they became homeless and refugees in a strange country being pursued by the authorities.

Many years later that child became the most influential man in history to bring God’s light and love and hope into this world – Jesus. Mary’s Child aims to offer God’s light, love and hope into the community – especially to those in need in any way.
