History of Dartford Museum - a long and varied history

The history of museums in Dartford can tentatively be traced back to the latter half of the 18th century. It is reputed that Dr John Latham, discoverer of the Dartford Warbler, had his own private museum collection based in Dartford

Museum education service

School teachers are welcome to make use of Dartford Borough Museum's free School Loans Service, although teachers must collect and return the items themselves. The aim of the service is to make a wide range of authentic objects and natural history specimens available for use in the classroom. Loans are arranged on a half-termly basis

Free object identification service

Members of the public are always welcome to bring in any objects which they would like to have identified. Members of staff are often able to provide a verbal identification on the spot but objects can also be left at the Museum for more detailed identifications or when staff need to seek advice from other museums

Which books can I buy

The publications can be purchased either by visiting the Museum in person during opening hours or by contacting the Museum by post, telephone or e-mail for details of prices for postage and packing
