Promoting Independence Grants available for disabled persons to adapt their homes

Last Updated: 12 Nov 2018 3:01pm

Did you know that grants worth up to £30,000 are available from Dartford Borough Council for property adaptations to help disabled people, both young and old to live independently in their own home?
A Disabled Facilities Grant promotion is currently underway as Dartford Borough Council is keen to see more residents applying for grants which are available.  Grant works can make homes safer and allow people to live independent lives, by paying for changes like stair lifts, ramps, grab rails, walk-in showers, adjustable height baths, ramps or shallow steps, and alterations to reach light switches and control power and heat.

There is also assistance available to help people with their grant applications eg: by obtaining quotes from reliable contractors, helping with the forms and other documentation and overseeing the works.
An assessment of needs has to be carried out by an Occupational Therapist before a Disabled Facilities Grant can be made.
To apply, you must be either the owner of the home or the tenant.
Grants are means-tested.
