Sir Peter Blake

Before his artwork was seen around the world, Sir Peter Blake attended Maypole Primary School and Dartford West Central on Highfield Road, where he remembered first doing art in school, before moving on to Gravesend Technical College.
Sir Peter is one of the most influential figures in pop culture. His works include famous album covers such as The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, followed by collaborations with The Who, Band Aid, Oasis, Eric Clapton and more.
His work dates back to the 1950s and reflects a love of popular culture and the beauty in everyday things. He often uses found materials like photos, comic strips, and adverts, mixing them with bold shapes and bright primary colours.
Away from Blake's collaborations with musicians, some of his most well-known artworks include “On the Balcony” (1955–57) and "The First Real Target” (1961).
His art captures the lively and positive spirit of the 1960s. It often includes feelings of nostalgia, reminding people of childhood and happy memories. Even though his work began over 65 years ago, it still feels fresh and modern, and continues to make a strong impression today.
