A word from the curator

Sir Peter Blake Gallery Art for Dartford

A Dartford based artist, born in Finland, Eija's own art is very much influenced by the beautiful nature of her native country, merged by the experience of living and bringing up a family in England.

A commissioned and selling artist, giving priority to atmosphere and colour, Eija has taken part in over 50 exhibitions in London, Kent and abroad.

Eija has been a member, Creative director and Curator of the London Finnish Art's Group since 1990, curating over 40 exhibitions in various London Galleries and Finnish Institutions.

Eija started curating exhibitions on behalf of Dartford Borough Council at the Sir Peter Blake Gallery in 2016 during her role as the Mayoress to her husband John, the Mayor of Dartford 2016-2017.

There have been between seven and 10 varied exhibitions per year at the gallery since January 2017, excluding during the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, some of the galleries biggest successes have been 'Impressions of Samuel Palmer 'and the 'Making of the Glimmer Twins' with viewers from all around the world. Exhibits like 'Climate Change' and 'The World Today' have covered important, topical subjects, while others have focused on local interests and successes (Leaders and Achievers - Remarkable Women of Dartford). Eija has also championed work from local artists (Cardboard Mind) as well as local schools and art groups.
