It is a legal requirement under the Public Health Act 1925 (Section 19) that there is adequate signage erected in a clear, prominent position in relation to the builds showing the street name and any sub names, if there are any (usually for terraces as infill development).

Any street number and/or property name that is associated with identifying individual properties must also be displayed in a clear, prominent position that can be read from the roadside. Blocks of flats must show the range of numbers that are within the building (for example, 28-56) on the exterior by the main entrance along with any officially allocated building names. Internal facing front doors (within blocks of flats) must also display the door numbers.

On new developments it is the developers' responsibility, in the first instance, to erect the appropriate signage once the builds are ready for occupation. For information on street sign specification for the Dartford Borough, please contact 01322 343063.

If your street name plate is missing, damaged or has been vandalised, please contact Customer Services on online. Replacement door numbers are the responsibility of the owners/occupiers of the property.
