National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme - Information for Consumers

Check out the food hygiene rating of your favourite restaurant or takeaway and find out which places are best avoided! Food Safety Sticker

The National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme gives you information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, pubs, cafes, takeaways, hotels, etc, as well as supermarkets and other food shops.

Ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of the inspection.  It is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times. A business is given one of six ratings. These are on a scale from '0' at the bottom, which means that urgent improvement is necessary, to '5' at the top, which means that the business was found to have 'very good' hygiene standards. Any business should be able to reach this top rating.

Appearance alone is not always an indication of hygiene standards, so you can check the ratings and use the information to help you choose where to eat out or shop for food.  The rating is not a guide to food quality or customer service.
