Dartford Town Centre

Temporary overnight weekend road closures in the Town Centre

Works to deliver the Highway and Public realm improvements in the High Street, Market Street and Lowfield Street commenced in May 2019, and are now due for completion in June 2020.

As part of the progression of the construction phase, road closures at these locations are due to be implemented between 2200hrs on Friday, through to 0500hrs on Monday, for up to 8 weekends:

1. Friday 7-2-20 to Monday 10-2-20
2. Friday 14-2-20 to Monday 17-2-20 (CANCELLED DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER FORECAST)
3. Friday 21-2-20 to Monday 24-2-20
4. Friday 28-2-20 to Monday 2-3-20
5. Friday 6-3-20 to Monday 9-3-20
6. Friday 13-3-20 to Monday 16-3-20
7. Friday 20-3-20 to Monday 23-3-20
8. Friday 27-3-20 to Monday 30-3-20

These closures are required so that Works in the narrow sections of the carriageway and footway where the High Street meets Market Street and where Market Street meets Lowfield Street can be safely carried out by our contractor. Whilst the closures are in place, other areas of work will also take advantage of the closures.

While the closures are in place, clearly signed diversions will be in operation. Access for Emergency Services is required to be provided by the contractor at all times, but all other vehicles will be excluded so that the Works can be efficiently and safely progressed.

We will work very hard to limit the disruption whilst these works are carried out, but we would be grateful for your understanding and patience, and please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience that these closures cause.

The telephone number 07710 077737 will be available should you need require assistance at any time during the closures.

Should you have any comments or queries regarding the above or any other aspect of the project, please do not hesitate to make contact using the details above.

Dartford Town Centre Bid

We successfully bid for a Government grant to transform the tired and confusing road layout around Market Street, the bus stands, and other key streets around the town. Our aim was to make the place more attractive for shoppers, bring the spirit of Central Park into the town centre, make it easy to park and enhance the heritage of places like the Library and Acacia Hall.

We made some proposals of our own and then listened to your feedback.  That led to some really good ideas and we made changes as a result.

Works are starting in Market Street. We are calming traffic, making it easier for shoppers and visitors to park and, most strikingly of all, creating new ‘pocket parks’ to provide calm, natural spaces to enjoy a break or just kick back and relax over coffee or lunch.  As you can see from the images, Market Street will become a public space that’s much more about trees, planting and green spaces than it is about concrete, railings and bollards.  It’s planned to be a wonderful transition between our high street and our much-loved Central Park.

We think history and heritage matters.  We’ve christened the new space Brewery Square to reflect the proud history of brewing in the area.  We will only use high quality natural materials and paving (and we’re storing plenty of spares to make sure we can replace any that get damaged or removed) to make it a place future generations can be proud of.  With Central Park now looking fabulous, the heritage regeneration of the Acacia estate underway, the Lowfield Street development finally started and new retailers returning to our High Street, Brewery Square is an important addition to our improvements.  We intend to do it well.

Construction of this phase of the town's regeneration is due to commence in summer 2019.

Please do let us have your feedback.
