Special Collections - Bulky Household Items
The Council can arrange for a contractor to collect and dispose of large bulky household waste such as furniture or large appliances (available only to Dartford Borough Council residents). For example, this includes sofas, beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs, carpets, televisions, fridges, freezers and washing machines. If you wish to dispose of bulky items yourself, please refer to information about our Household Waste Recycling Centres
The fastest way to arrange a collection is to complete an online request and payment form. This will raise an order directly with the collection contractors.
There is a charge for our collection and disposal service of £30 for the first 15 minutes collection time, and £15.00 for subsequent 15 minute periods.
When ordering a Special Collection, the time you pay for is the time it takes your items to be carried and loaded onto a van by two men. You buy the time in 15 minute slots and you should estimate as best you can to allow for all your items to be collected. The more items you have or the more awkward it is to access them - the more time you should allow. To help you estimate effectively, below is a typical example of what can be collected within a single 15 minute time slot where the items have been left easily accessible at the front of the house.
Example of a typical 15 minute collection of twelve bulky items:
- 2 double beds
- 2 double mattresses
- 2 single beds
- 2 single mattresses
- 1 washing machine
- 1 dining table
- 2 small carpets
If you have up to twice as much to collect you should order a 30 minute collection.
- The team carrying out the collections are only allowed to collect the items up to the maximum time you have paid for. If you significantly underestimate the time required, or do not list all of the items you want collected, you would need to request another Special Collection for remaining items that have not been collected..
- The team are not allowed to enter any property to carry out a special collection. All items to be collected must be placed outside and be easily accessible.
- We will not collect some items such as rubble, hardcore, soil, kitchen units, bathroom suites, fence panels and garden waste. Large bulky household items only please.
- The contractors aim to collect the items within 10 working days, and will contact the customer at least 24 hours beforehand so the items can be left outside for collection.
We suggest you use online request and payment form as this is the quickest way to place your order.
