The Job Profile:

This describes the main purpose of the job and will list the tasks and duties which you will be expected to perform if you are appointed.  It also tells you what skills and competencies (values and behaviours) a person must have to be able to do the job. Decisions on who to invite for the interview are made by assessing what you tell us on your application form and comparing with what we have asked for in the job profile.


Completing the Application Form:

The application form plays a very important part in the selection process, and will be used as the basis for shortlisting you for a job. You must fill in all sections of the form, making sure the information you provide is clear and accurate. The information you provide will be treated as confidential and in line with the Data Protection principles.
Please ensure that you submit your application form by the closing date. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
As we need the same range of information from all candidates we are not able to accept CVs in place of an application form.

In accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, all candidates will be asked to present evidence of their right to work in the United Kingdom. An explanatory note about this requirement should be sent to the candidate with the invitation to interview email.

References:

Please complete details for two referees, who can cover at least 3 years. One should be your most recent employer, and/or your most recent work experience. They must not be related to you or be a friend. If you are a school/college leaver, please give us the name and address of the head teacher/tutor and also the manager of your most recent work experience placement, if applicable. Please indicate on the form if you do not want us to contact your referees unless offered the job.


Work Experience / Qualifications:

Put your most recent work experience/qualifications first. Experience and knowledge gained through relevant voluntary work is just as important as experience gained “on–the-job”.


Education, Qualification and Membership of Professional Associations:

You must ensure you provide all the information about your education and qualifications obtained, including those qualifications you are currently studying for. Please do not forget to include dates. If you are appointed, we will ask you to provide original copies of your qualifications upon joining the council.


Relevant Skills and Competencies:

This section provides an opportunity to describe your skills and competencies that are relevant to this position and to detail how you meet each element of the job profile. Before completing this section, read through the job profile, think carefully about how you meet the job requirements, considering your achievements and skills gained in paid and / or voluntary employment, outside interests and any other relevant activities. Ensure that you highlight any information that demonstrates your suitability for the position. This information is an important part of the selection process and should be completed by both internal and external applicants.
The job profile contains competencies and you should provide evidence supported by examples of how you have demonstrated each competency in the past. The example you give should outline what you have done in the past to demonstrate that value or behaviour rather than what you would do if a particular situation arose. The example may be from your current job or from an activity you have done in the past. Specify your own experience and not the general work of your office or section.
When completing this section of the form, try to list your examples in the order they appear in the person specification, as this will help when we are shortlisting. Do ensure you mention all relevant experience as we cannot assume anything from a job title you may have had in the past.


Applicant Declaration:

When applying for or being considered for a job, you must disclose if you are related to or have a close relationship with a Councillor or senior officer for the Council. In submitting the form you confirm that all the information you have given in the application form is true and accurate. Giving false information which results in your appointment to the council's service may render you liable to dismissal without notice.


What Happens Next:

Once you submit your online form, you will receive an acknowledgement email. Thereafter you will be kept up to date with emails throughout the application process. Your account area will also show you the application status as well as details of other applications that you have made.


Applying for jobs that are subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks or Basic Disclosure Checks:

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and to safeguarding electronic information and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
If the post you have applied for is a position eligible for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as taken from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) this will be specified in the advert and job classification.
This means we are legally entitled to ask you for information about your criminal record and criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings and you cannot consider any convictions as “spent” for the purposes of this application - except those which, under the DBS filtering rules, should no longer be disclosed. If invited to attend for interview you will be asked about any declarations you have made about your criminal record with your application. Any offer of appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service, evidence of registration with the DBS Update Service and signing of a consent form to allow employer access to allow future rechecks online before an appointment can be confirmed. Your Disclosure may include details of criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings as well as spent and unspent convictions, and will also check records in the Department of Health and Department for Education and Skills. It may also include non-conviction information held by for example, a local police force, which may be relevant for the job that you have applied for. It will not include details of certain old or minor convictions that are filtered by the DBS.


Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from employment. This will depend on the circumstances and background to your offence(s). Under the Data Protection Act 1998, we cannot use the information obtained to seek a Disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service for any other purpose.


If you are offered a job requiring a disclosure and barring service check and you decline to complete a declaration concerning any convictions that you may have had and/or a Disclosure application form, we may decide to withdraw the offer. Similarly the offer may be withdrawn if you do not provide proof of subscription to the Update Service.

Baseline Security Check (BPSS) - All new employees (who are not in a post eligible for a DBS check) will be required to undertake a Baseline Security Check prior to commencing employment This consists of confirmation of right to work in the UK, references for the past three years, and a basic disclosure check.

All offers of employment are made on a conditional basis subject to the following conditions:

  • Occupational Health Assessment
  • References to cover the last 3 years
  • Production of any further information not seen at interview or that had not yet been supplied.
  • A satisfactory DBS or Basic Disclosure check if this is required as part of the role
