Dangerous Wild Animal Licence
The keeping of certain species of wild and exotic animals is controlled by the Dangerous Wild Animals Act. No one may keep any dangerous wild animal listed in The Dangerous Wild Animals Act without first obtaining a licence from us. A licence will not be issued if the applicant is disqualified from consideration or has a conviction under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act.
The application fee is £435 which is payable when the licence application is submitted. The applicant will also be required to pay the cost of vet inspections carried out by a Council authorised veterinarian.
Except in exceptional circumstances the person making the application must be:
- the person who owns and possesses or
- proposes to own and possess the animal(s) to which the application applies
Where a licence is granted, the licence (and any subsequent licences) will expire on 31 December every year. It must be renewed before that date if the licence holder intends to continue keeping the animal(s) named on the licence.
