Mental health problems are a very common part of life, one in four people will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives and at any given time one in six people will be experiencing a mental health problem which may affect their daily life, relationships or physical health.
Mental health is important to everyone, there are times when everyone feels down, stressed or frightened but most of the time these feelings will pass. However, sometimes these feelings can develop into more serious problems.

Six ways to wellbeing:
The Six Ways to Wellbeing. Simple enjoyable things that make a big difference to how you feel. Now and in the weeks and months to come.
The Six Ways to Wellbeing can be quick things, like giving way to another driver ("give") or noticing something unusual on the way to the shops ("take notice"). Or they can be longer-term projects, like starting a new hobby ("keep learning") or becoming a volunteer ("give" and "care").
The Six Ways – connect, be active, keep learning, give, take notice and care - over a range of actions and activities. More and more research shows that they help to improve our moods, strengthen relationships, keep us healthy and even add seven years to our lives.
Here are some examples of different Ways to Wellbeing. Please add your own!
- Sit with the family to eat a meal together
- Say hello to a neighbour
- Ask what is selling well when you buy something in the local shop
- Do a good spring clean
- Put on your favourite song and dance to it
- Organise an informal sports session for work colleagues or neighbours
- Savour the taste of your meals
- Think about your day when you brush your teeth; recognise what you did well
- Notice three unusual things on a journey you make often
- Browse in a charity shop and look at the sections you don't usually look at – CDs, DVDs, books, shoes
- Watch an interesting documentary on TV
- Ask a friend to teach you a practical skill, like sewing on a button
- Contact a charity or community group about volunteering opportunities
- Offer your seat to someone who needs it more
- Tell someone 'Well done'
Care: Grow your Planet:
- Switch off phone chargers when you're not using them
- Freecycle unwanted belongings
- Get a "bag for life" and put it by the front door, ready for when you shop
