Six new homes have been opened in Swanscombe as the Council continues its programme of providing new social housing around the borough.

Sheri Court in Keary Road has six apartments, comprised of two one-bed homes and four two-bedroom homes. There is parking with EV charging points on site and the flats overlook nearby allotments. All the apartments have been allocated to households with strong Dartford connections and residents are set to move in later this month.

Members of Dartford’s Tenant and Leaseholders Forum and representatives of the many contractors who worked to build the new homes joined local councillors and the new Worshipful Mayor of Dartford, Cllr Paul Cutler, last Thursday.

Leader of the Council Jeremy Kite said: “It’s wonderful that we’ve been able to provide this high-quality social housing. Local people deserve the best opportunities and that’s what we have been able to deliver here.

“We have similar projects underway in other parts of Swanscombe to ensure that more people in our borough can access a high standard of housing. Housing is a big, big concern for people, particularly the young and those starting out on the housing ladder and we are proud to be overseeing the delivery of more social housing than most other councils.  Dartford families deserve decent homes to help them lead decent lives.”

The new building has been named after Sheri Green, who retired as Dartford Borough Council’s Strategic Director in 2021 after 34 years of service at the Council.

During that time she created and led the Council’s new build programme which helped provide the first Council houses to be built in Dartford for 25 years. The programme has since gone from strength to strength and will continue providing great homes into the future.

Speaking afterwards, Sheri Green said: “It was an honour to be invited to see these homes finished and ready for local people to move into.

“I was definitely surprised to hear that the project was being named after me, but it’s truly a privilege and I feel proud to be connected to such a brilliant and important project for local people.”

The Council expects to create 23 more Council homes in Swanscombe over the next 12 to 18 months. It follows the completion of three bungalows on Tree Estate last year that were built for people with additional needs.
