Special collections - Bulky Household Items

The Council can arrange for a contractor to collect and dispose of large bulky household waste such as furniture or large appliances (available only to Dartford Borough Council residents). For example, this includes sofas, beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs, carpets, televisions, fridges, freezers and washing machines.

There is a charge for our collection and disposal service of £35 for up to 10 items, with extra items charged at £2 per item (maximum 4 extra items).

Please ensure that you have read and understood our Terms & Conditions before arranging a collection

Don't want to use our service?

If you wish to dispose of bulky items yourself, you can take it to one of two Kent County Council's Household Waste Recycling Centre's (The Tip).

Alternatively, you may decide to employ an individual or a company to remove your waste. Please remember, your waste is your responsibility and you have what legislation calls a 'duty of care'. Duty of care means that you must take reasonable steps to ensure that the people removing waste from your property are authorised to do so and do not illegally dispose of your waste. These reasonable steps are:

1. Check their waste carrier licence

The Environmental Protection Act (1990) requires households to have their waste collected by registered and accredited waste collectors. You should always ask for their waste carrier licence number and check whether it is a valid one by contacting the Environment Agency on 08708 506 506. Please check if the removal company has a relevant waste carriers licence.

2. Obtain a waste transfer note

This is official paperwork confirming the receipt of your waste and where it is taken.
