Equality and diversity

Dartford Borough Council is committed to eliminating discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity, both as a provider of services and as an employer. The Council recognises that diversity is an asset to the Borough and that equality of opportunity is important to all regardless of gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief or any other factor.

Individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles and experiences live and work in the Borough, and the Council will ensure that everyone in Dartford can fully participate in the social, cultural and economic wealth of the Borough.

We have rigorous systems in place for ensuring that equality and diversity is taken into account across all services and in the development of Council policies, practices and procedures. Several services have already completed Customer Access Reviews as part of an ongoing corporate assessment programme.

Dartford Borough Council Equality Action Plan 2012/13

The action plan PDF, 24.53 KB sets out how the Council will meet the equality aims and objectives as set out in the Dartford Borough Council Equality and Diversity Framework - Achieving Customer Service Excellence 2011 - 2014. The action plan is set out under three key objectives:

  • Our services are accessible and do not discriminate on any unjustifiable ground.
  • Our services meet the needs of our customers and local communities can influence our services.
  • Equality and diversity is championed within the Council and our workforce at all levels is representative of the local community.

The actions will be further developed, as part of the remit of the Council equality group, into actions for service plans. The progress of the Council against the actions will be measured through the Council's performance management framework.
