- Flight Sergeant (Flight Engineer) Victor Henry Clare, DFM, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Prior to the family moving out of the area, he had lived with his father at 60 Swaisland Road, Dartford and attended Dartford West Central Boys’ School. Died 8.6.45, aged 20, when his Halifax bomber crashed after hitting a church steeple as the pilot tried to gain height on only three engines after aborting a landing at RAF Clifton near York. Buried in Fulford Cemetery, North Yorkshire.
