- Petty Officer Airman Frank Coston, DSM, HMS Formidable, Royal Navy. His parents and wife lived at 49 West Hill, Dartford. Died 8.5.41, aged 24, when his Fairey Fulmar fighter was shot down and ditched into the sea. Commemorated on the Lee-on-Solent Memorial.
