- Pilot Officer (Air Gunner) Leslie John Victor Cotton, 78 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Lodged at 12 Shirehall Road, Hawley, for 12 years prior to joining the RAF. Died 31.8.43, aged 37, when his Halifax bomber crashed in Cambridgeshire. Buried in St Laurence-in-Thanet Churchyard, Ramsgate, Kent, and commemorated on the Sutton-at-Hone War Memorial.
