- Leading Stoker Cyril Frank Courtnall, HM Submarine Turbulent, Royal Navy. He had grown up in Dartford and his parents still lived at 85 Dartford Road. Died aged 22. His official date of death is 23.3.43 although this is just the date on which HM Submarine Turbulent failed to return to Algiers from a patrol of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
