- Stoker 1st Class George Dighton, HMS Candytuft, Royal Navy. Probably lived with parents and siblings in a caravan at ‘St Margaret’s Farm, Horton Lane’. Died 10.9.41, aged 22, following a boiler explosion on HMS Candytuft. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial and on the Darenth Church Memorial Tablet.
