- Lieutenant (Observer) Eric W. (‘Dave’) Airey, 12 Squadron, South African Air Force. Attended Dartford Grammar School 1929-31 and, in 1937, was living in Brent Lane, Dartford before he emigrated to South Africa. Died 10.2.43, aged 29, when his Boston bomber crashed on take-off in Libya. Buried in Tripoli War Cemetery, Libya, and commemorated on the Bexleyheath War Memorial, the memorial tablet in St Michael’s Church, East Wickham, and on the Dartford Grammar School In Memoriam Panel.
