- Lance Serjeant Stanley William Gardener, 7 Coast Regiment, Royal Artillery. Apparently born in Betsham but probably later lived in Northfleet Green. Died 12.9.44, aged 30, as a prisoner of war when his Japanese transport ship was one of two torpedoed and sunk by American submarines. Commemorated on the Singapore Memorial and the Southfleet Second World War Memorial Plaque.
