- Acting Leading Airman (Airgunner 3rd Class) Leonard Percy Gardner, HMS Kestrel (Worthy Down), Fleet Air Arm, attached to 825 Squadron. Apparently from the Southfleet area. Died 29.5.40, aged 26, when his Fairey Swordfish biplane bomber was lost on a bombing raid around Dunkirk. Buried in Bollezeele Communal Cemetery, France, and commemorated on the Southfleet Second World War Memorial Plaque.
