- Sub-Lieutenant (A) Ernest Raymond (‘Peach’) Giles, HMS Avenger, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Lived at 8 Princes Road, Dartford. Died 15.11.42, aged 21, when his converted escort aircraft carrier was torpedoed west of Gibraltar. Commemorated on the Lee-on-Solent Memorial and on the Dartford Grammar School In Memoriam Panel.
