- Private Herbert George (‘Sam’) Gunner, 6th Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers. He had once been a member of the Sutton-at-Hone Home Guard but no local address has been traced. Died 5.11.44, aged 23, killed in action. Buried in Nederweert War Cemetery, Netherlands, and commemorated on the Sutton-at-Hone War Memorial.
