- Captain Frank Emmanuel Hailstone, SS Marconi, Merchant Navy. He lived in East Ham but his parents had moved to Dartford around the time of the First World War and his mother still lived at 34 Ingram Road, Dartford. Died 21.5.41, aged 43, when SS Marconi was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat off Greenland. Commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.
