- Chief Ordnance Artificer Arthur Hoile, HMS Ajax, Royal Navy. Lived at 131 Princes Road, Dartford. Died 3.6.46, aged 46, from shrapnel wounds received at the Battle of the River Plate in 1939 when his gun turret received a direct hit from the Graf Spee.
