- Flight Sergeant Arthur William Johnson, 272 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He had grown up in Dartford and his parents still lived at 13 Brent Close. Died 8.5.43, aged 20, when he disappeared after baling out over the sea from his Beaufighter bomber while attempting to return to Malta after his aircraft had been hit by Italian fighters during a raid on Tunisia. Commemorated on the Malta Memorial, in St Edmund’s Pleasance, Dartford, and on the Dartford Grammar School In Memoriam Panel. Brother of Peter David Johnson who died 19.9.44.
