Introduction
Private Charles Lawrence, 7th Battalion, Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment. He had lived with his mother at 14 Bexley Lane, Maypole Estate, until her death when he moved in with friends at 48 Baldwyns Road, Maypole Estate. Died 2.11.41, aged 22, in a German Prisoner of War camp becoming Dartford’s only known black casualty of the Second World War. Buried in Poznan Old Garrison Cemetery, Poland.
