- Private Denis Arthur Lyrick, 2nd Battalion, The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment). He had grown up in Dartford and his parents still lived at 6 Beech Road. Died 17.6.40, aged 20, when HMT Lancastria was sunk by German aircraft after leaving St Nazaire, causing the largest ever British maritime loss of life. Commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial, France.
