- Sergeant (Pilot) John Walter Nowlan, 104 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. His parents lived in Eltham Park but he attended Dartford Grammar School 1930-38. Died 17.8.41, aged 21, when his Wellington bomber crashed in Lincolnshire on an operational flight, either through engine failure or through being shot down by a German night fighter. Buried in St John the Baptist Churchyard, Eltham, and commemorated on the Dartford Grammar School In Memoriam Panel.
